Uruguay 1996/2013
Chapter Five

The latest 1996 Uruguay images are dedicated to Colonia
Valdense, a place  where in the late of the 1800 a Valdese community
coming from Italy  and more precisely from the valleys of Torre Pellice decided to settle.
In 1996 I went to Colonia Valdense to meet some members of the Association “Famija Piemonteisa”  and with them I discovered the community, the historic sites of their early settlements and the life of the rural community of those years.
I kept in touch with people and in last May (2013) I went  back to  Colonia Valdense. The elderly  guys were no more alive,  but I met their children and grandchildren and it was very interesting to see the differences in mentality between the old and  new generation.

In young people the  nostalgia for the homeland left is no more the main sentiment, but  they have  a cultural interest  towards social  and community  habits of the valleys of origin.

I was greeted very warmly, but I had no doubt about that. They told me  about their life,  we compared the social and community changes  and we spoke  a lot on the current political phase of their country, of which they are very proud of,  a time of economic and moral growth certainly enviable and very far from the  actual political models  in Italy.

The next and final chapter will be dedicated to photographs taken during  the 2013 Spring.
